The trailer of the second starring movie of BiS “IDOL IS NOT DEAD – Non-chan no Propaganda Daisensou –“ which will release on January 11 2014 is revealed.

It’s only BiS, the unprecedented idol who has the unique perspective could realize this kind of the ultimate idol movie.

Last year, director Katoh Yukihiro and BiS take their hands and shooting the film “IDOL IS DEAD” for “MOOSIC LAB 2012”, the film festival which collect works of the collaboration of music and movie of the same period.
This film attracted the attention as a symbol of girls action movie of Idol Sengoku-jidai(warring state period of idol) and won many awards and at last the creation of the continuation was decided.

In this second film, “Electric★Kiss”, an idol group produced by “Happiness Denryoku” appeared. This film writes “BiS” who get over the hardship and reunite to battle against the formidable conspiracy plan of “Electric★Kiss” with many black humor toward modern society.
The powerful live scene with amazing idol festival set and over 350 extra is a highlight too.
In the idol boom no longer being chaos, BiS is running and destroying the concept of “Idol”. Unprecedented anarchy idol film that only BiS could make is born here!!

BiS Releases a Footage of Live Performance for “Hide out cut” from the Upcoming DVD!

BiS held their one-man live titled “WHO KiLLED IDOL?“ at Ryogoku Kokugikan on March 16th, 2013. It was their most reckless challenge than ever because Ryogoku Kokugikan has a capacity of 10,000 people. Unfortunately, they could gather only 4,000 people (including the people involved), that was 6,000 people short to fill the venue.

However, the venue was filled with an air of excitement soon after they started the performance with “survival dAnce -no no cry more-.” BiS’s earnest performance blew away the problem of attracting customers.
Looking at the vacant seats on the second floor, Pour Lui, who is BiS’s leader, said “All the seats are full! except the second floor!” as self-deprecating humor.

Against such disastrous condition, audiences got excited more and more. There were impressive scene that fans colored the venue in white with light sticks as a surprise gift for Wakisaka Yurika’s final performance.

The LIVE DVD will be released on December 4th. It will come with a bonus DVD with private shots from the day of the one-man concert at Ryogoku Kokugikan and their first nationwide concert tour held during December, 2012 to March, 2013.

Now, you can watch the previewed footage of their live performance for “Hide out cut” from the upcoming DVD.

I don’t know where BiS goes.
Therefore, I don’t know what the right thing for BiS.
I even feel like there’s no correct answer, incorrect is correct.
If so, let me do whatever I want to.
But Idol must not to be too radical/ extreme.

Viewer Warning: BiS’s New Song, “primal.2″ Music Video Filmed in Love Hotel, Causes Problems

A video clip of BiS‘s new song, “primal.2“, has been uploaded to YouTube.

The song, included on their last album “WHO KiLLED IDOL?“, which will be released on March 5th, is produced by Kenta Matsukuma (SCRAMBLES) and includes guitar from HISASHI (GLAY). HISASHI got involved after the release of BiS’s single “primal” from their indie period, which he praised highly on his Twitter feed when it was released.

The video clip features many 20-something women in addition to BiS, and is filmed in a love hotel. In the clip, the women, alone with the camera operators, show us their real sides, speaking frankly about their worries and fears.

First, view this clip.
(It’s quite a full on video, so viewer discretion is advised)

This music video will surely cause debate about its pros and cons, not just in Japan but also abroad.

While this view into an adult video-like world is the a distinctive feature, the film techniques are somewhat dated, and it ends up inspiring feelings of sadness, futility, and helplessness.

BiS, who have already declared they will put a halt to their activity, are one answer to what the question of what happens after the terrible ‘idol wars’, but in this video they seem to be expressing a vague sort of sadness.

This video — whose themes seem to be the idea of returning from being an idol to being a normal girl, as well as the idea of purity — may ultimately prove fruitful in allowing BiS to ‘study’ themselves as idols.

BiS Reveals Typical-Idol-like MV for their glorious FiNAL DANCE!

The artworks for BiS‘s last single “FiNAL DANCE / nerve” has been revealed. So far, BiS has been known for their sensational acts that make a disturbing noise in the world. However, the last visual works from the group became exactly typical of Japanese ordinary idol group. The Music Video and the jacket covers were shot in Okinawa, and this must be the first and the last time for the members to wear bikini as BiS. This is truly an irony for the cynical idol group, but it’s a completely new looks.

Regular Edition (MV ver.) Limited Edition (CD ver.) Regular Edition (CD ver.) Limited Edition (Live ver.) Regular Edition (Live ver.) Limited Edition (MV ver.)

As their previous works, BiS’s sound producer Kenta Matsukuma (from SCRAMBLES) produced the powerful rock tune “FiNAL DANCE.” Then, BiS’s member wrote the lyric and express their current thought about the end set in the near future.

BiS’s leader Pour Lui commented, “We shed tears, laughed, exposed the nudity, became bald, and got wet… We did a lot of things in this three and a half years. We are finally able to reach this day after many complications. The shooting was very delightful as never before. But, it’s something strange. We’re different from other idols. We are just an amateur group that could become neither an idol, nor music band, nor even hentai! We are Brand-new Idol Society “BiS”!!!!!!!!!”

BiS has been setting a goal to disband in Nippon Budokan for a long time, but they decided to give it up by various reasons. They selected Yokohama Arena for the venue of the last live and put an end to the activities of BiS.

BiS is now on a way of their last nationwide tour “THE BiS WHO SOLD THE WORLD TOUR”. The tickets has been almost sold out.
Though it’s regrettable that such a sensational idol group will withdraw from the front line, please do witness their glorious FiNAL DANCE!

BiS / “FiNAL DANCE(Special Edit)”

In the middle of the MV, Pour Lui shares her real intention in tears;

“I guess this is the last time to do something like now.
If we were to stop our disband, it may not end.
But, BiS will die if we should stop disband. So we’re going to disband.
That would be more fun.”

The “Final Dance” of BiS: 48 Songs in Three and a Half Hours at Yokohama Arena

$

0

On July 8, 2014 “alternative idol group” BiS held their final concert, “BiS nari no Budokan” at Yokohama arena in front of about 9,000 “kenkyuuin” (BiS’ term for their fans). In their three and a half year history, BiS was never a group to conform to the norms of the idol genre, whether it was running around in the woods wearing nude bodysuits (“My Ixxx”), releasing albums entitled “IDOL is DEAD” and “WHO KiLLED IDOL?”, or attempting to run 100 kilometers in 24-hours before performing at a 24-hour concert (“hitoribochi”). Contrary to other concerts where idols said their final farewells to fans, there were no long emotional speeches or elaborate costume changes; BiS expressed their thanks with an impressive, near nonstop three and a half-hour, 48-song performance.

like a funeral...

like a funeral…

True to their unconventional, sometimes controversial nature, there was an altar for fans to place flowers in front of portraits of the members, giving the appearance of a funeral. Fans who purchased the 2000 yen tickets were greeted by staff dressed up like hoodlums wielding baseball bats and made to navigate a path strewn with banana peels before entering the arena. Inside the arena lobby was a display of all the costumes that BiS wore during their three and a half year history on display as well as floral arrangements congratulating them on their accomplishments.

The final concert began with current members Pour Lui, Nozomi Hirano, Saki Kamiyama, Ten Tenko, Megumi Koshoji, and First Summer Uika being joined onstage by former members Yukiko Nakayama, Rina Yokoyama, and Rio Michibayashi for a 9-member rendition of BiS’ representative song “nerve”. After a short rendition of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” by manager Junnosuke Watanabe accompanied by producer Kenta Matsukuma on guitar, BiS returned to the stage in patchwork dresses and sang and danced continuously for over an hour before taking a short 3-minute break which was activated by a large button at the back of the stage labeled “S.O.S.”
The second half of the concert began with BiS newest song “FiNAL DANCE” and ended with the same song they started with, “nerve”, this time with BiS performing as a 6-member unit. In between, Saki Kamiyama ran into the premium seating area and crowd surfed, the members did a victory lap around the arena floor seating area, and several giant bouncy balls were tossed into the crowd. It seems as if BiS chose to have their music convey their gratitude to the “kenkyuuin” in attendance, having performed 48 songs (49 if you count “nerve” twice) in an impressive near-continuous 3 and a half hour concert.

The only words BiS had for the audience came at the very end of the performance when leader Pour Lui said “Thank you very much! We have been BiS! (Arigatou gozaimashita! BiS deshita!)” as she ran off the stage. This was followed by a memorial video featuring pictures of the members, acknowledgements, and announcements of their future plans: Pour Lui would be continuing her activities as a singer in the band LUI◇FRONTiC Matsukuma Japan, First Summer Uika and Nozomi Hirano would be forming a new unit called Billie Idol under the creative direction of NIGO, Saki Kamiyama would join a new idol group called Purania, Megumi Koshoji would begin a new project called “book house girl” in the fall, and Ten Tenko would be “free”.

Witnessing the end of BiS should serve as a lesson to all fans; you never know when a group is going to break up, or your favorite member might graduate so, by all means, if you have a chance to go see a group you like, take it! However, it did seem odd that as the “kenkyuuin” were exiting Yokohama Arena, they were handed a flyer for “A Solo Live in the style of former BiS” (Moto BiS nari no Wanman Raibu) that was taking place on July 9th in Shimokitazawa with a 30,000 yen entry fee which included an all-you-can eat/drink option. While we may never see BiS get back together anytime in the near future, it feels like they may not be done challenging our expectations of what idol culture is about. The DVD and Blue-Ray for “BiS nari no Budokan” goes on sale September 24, 2014.

BiS’s Final Concert “BiS nari no Budokan” Recap Footage Unveiled

BiS nari no Budokan” recap footage was released of the last live performance of BiS, who broke up sensationally at Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa on July 8th 2014.
The footage brings back the concert’s joy and frenzy, an unprecedented concept of 49 back-to-back songs.

Bonus footage on Blu-ray was announced as well. It contains footage from the DVD of their March 16th, 2013 concert at the Ryokoku Kokugikan, ROAD TO BUDOKAN KOKUGIKAN “WHO KiLLED IDOL?”, which ended in dismal failure. Of course, it is high-definition video.
Pour Lui, Nozomi Hirano, Yufu Terashima, Rio Michibayashi, and Yurika Wakisaka performed in this concert. As this was Yurika Wakisaka’s final concert before leaving the group, the footage is extremely emotional.

On this Blu-ray, you can see all of the BiS members singing and dancing. It is not an exaggeration to say that it covers the full history of BiS.
This work is the last authentic work to be produced by BiS. If you want to bid farewell to BiS, you have to get this Blu-ray of their final concert!

BiS Kaidan Unveils The Worst Video featuring their Last Gig

Alternative idol group BiS‘s another unit BiS Kaidan has released the footage from their last live event.
BiS Kaidan (BiS階段) was a Japanese noise band formed in 2012 as a collaboration between the female idol group BiS (a name which stands for “Brand-new idol Society”) and the noise band Hijokaidan.
First of all, take a look at the footage below.

There are mountains of insane performances in this world that can described by adjectives such as “seriously crazy!” and “unprecedented!”
However, in regards to this video, it far surpasses the senses of the ordinary person, and there is only one word to describe it: “awful”.

For the record, there is a high possibility that things that should not be allowed, whether for religious reasons or from a cultural standpoint, will appear in this video. These images were captured with the intent of being viewed only within Japan, so I hope for those overseas to understand this up-front.

Now, although this kind of “awful” video has been presented to the public, I certainly do not want you to imagine that Japan is facing an unprecedented state of chaos.
Rather, I think that for present-day Japan, where peace prevails, the expression of a “chaotic state” is connected to a type of nostalgic artistry.

Just as popular music of the past is today referred to as “classical music”, until several decades ago, there was definitely a feeling of “chaos” that prevailed throughout Japanese society. If, during that kind of era of mass chaos, someone expressed themselves in a way similar to this video, it could be said to be a method of expression that is rightly popular and consistent with the times.

However, in present-day Japan, this kind of overly chaotic expression is clearly out of line with the daily experience. First of all, it will probably not be able to gain widespread acceptance.
So who are these people in the audience, appearing in this video?
For what purpose have they gathered there?

I think that this perhaps is an emergence of a new type of intellectual.
By intellect, I am not referring to studies.
I am referring to people who, when faced with something that is different from the mundane aspects of ordinary life, are able to sense unique value, and can view themselves within that artistry from an outside perspective.

“Chaos” as a type of classical art, is creating a brand new genre.
And the truth is that the person standing on that stage is an “idol”.

People tend to think that the standard “idol” has become someone who sings and dances with a smile on their face, but ultimately, an idol is “a professional who attracts the hearts of people”.

The idol of Japan is in a vector separate from the shared values of the masses, and conceals the daunting power of destroying stereotypes.

And also, in the midnight of September 17th, “Seiko Oomori’s Birthday Party” which will celebrate her birthday and release of her debut single “Kyuru-kyuru” will distribute from Niconico Live, Ustream and YouTube.

BiS Left Legend – The Live Footage for “nerve”, The Last Song from the Final Concert Revealed!

BiS has revealed the live footage for “nerve” that was performed as the last song at their last concert “BiS nari no Budokan” held at Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa on July 8th 2014.

This was to be the final performance before breaking up the group forever, and the fans (Kenkyuuin) were surely expecting an encore. When the time came the audience was super-charged to hear this song, knowing it would be last after a set list that ran in order from the newest numbers to the oldest.

The balloons that fans had ready, the well-loved “ebizori” dance moves, then on the last chorus BiS brought their manager Junnosuke Watanabe up on stage to dance with them.

The long journey for the group culminated in this euphoric performance.

BiS’ “IDOL is DEAD” Re-opens Nippon Nights at San Francisco’s Roxie Theater

On October 23rd, the second season of Nippon Nights kicks off at San Francisco’s historic Roxie Theater with “IDOL is DEAD” (2012), the horror-comedy starring recently disbanded “anti-idol” group BiS.

The second oldest continually run cinema in the world, San Francisco’s Roxie Theater, is once again screening a selection of films on the fringe of Japanese cinema. This time around, the focus is on representations of present-day Japan through the lens of music and experimental animation.

The world is still reeling from the aftershocks left by “anti-idol” group BiS (Brand-new Idol Society) and their 4-year assault on the typically sweet and cute world of Japanese idols. “IDOL is DEAD” stars Pour Lui, Nozomi Hirano, and Yufu Terashima as they struggle to become countryside idols after killing their rivals. As if learning how to sing and dance wasn’t difficult enough, one of the girls they killed returns from the grave as a cyborg-zombie. Don’t miss director Yukihiro Kato’s take on the current Japanese idol boom, which has been dubbed “the warring states period of idols” (Idol Sengoku Jidai)!

“Save the Club Noon” (2013) is a documentary about the problematic Japanese law, which prohibits “unauthorized dancing” in nightclubs. With Osaka’s club Noon as the epicenter, filmmaker Moriro Miyamoto explores the contradiction of Japan having the second-largest music market in the world yet criminalizing the act of dancing. Covering the event held in protest of Noon’s raid by police in 2012, “Save the Club Noon” features the more than 90 artists who participated with many of them weighing in on the issue.

Internationally acclaimed animator Mirai Mizue’s “WONDER FULL!!” is a compilation of his brightly colored abstract short films, including the crowd funded “WONDER”, which features 365 seconds of painstakingly hand drawn frames completed over the course of a year. This is a rare opportunity to see that there is a lot more to Japanese animation than just wide-eyed magical schoolgirls and spiky-haired ninjas in orange jumpsuits (not that there’s anything wrong with that either). Prepare your eyes and ears for an experience that you will not soon forget!

Seating is limited so make sure to get your tickets early for Nippon Nights at Roxie Theater as soon as possible!

As they begin their activities, Maison book girl also plans to simultaneously unveil a fashion brand. Launching their own artist good creations, the group put out high quality, well-designed items for sale.

Even if only because of Sakurai, who showed his talented musicianship through fusing modern music and idol pop as Izukoneko’s producer, the group is already catching plenty of attention.

Tentenko (ex-BiS) Releases Totally Retro MV for “Good bye, Good girl”!

Fans of former BiS member Tentenko can now rest easy and look forward to being able to hear more music from the diminutive daredevil girl. For her first post-BiS project she has chosen to go the route of synthpop and the video for “Good bye, Good girl” is overflowing with retro images.

Shot with what appears to be a VHS camera in the neighborhood of Uguisudani, unless you notice small details like the 1 or 2 people using smartphones in the background, the sign for the Tonkatsu burger at McDonald’s (it went on sale a few weeks ago) or the can of Red Bull in Tentenko’s hand, the video looks like it could have been from the 1980′s.

In order to facilitate wider distribution of her debut EP of the same name, Tentenko has turned to crowd-funding where she reached her goal of 500,000 yen on opening day and managed to receive almost 2.3 million yen in pledges by the time it ended. While some might have been worried for her future when it was announced that she would be “free” at the end of BiS’ final concert on July 8th, it appears that Tentenko is doing what she wants and has found a way to do it.
